Reared as a child
in a foster home, Mckenzie could have been another sad statistic
of a youth going bad. instead, he decided to go against
the odds by finishing high school, even attending college and
then making his life something to be proud of earning a
bachelor's degree at UAPB.
When
I turned 18, I was told I was on my own. I was officially
an adult. It didn't matter that I never found a family or
a place I could call home. I realized there would be no
family reunions, no family get togethers, no Thanksgiving
dinners and no Christmas celebrations. I was devastated,
but determined not to let this negatively affect the rest of my
life. I decided to go to college and amazingly I earned a
B.A. degree with honors. I now work for the government."|
